The leader of the MotoGP World Championship was seriously injured at the Catalan Grand Prix. Francesco Bagnaia got a highsider on the first lap and fell on the track directly under the wheels of South African Brad Binder, who ran over his legs. The race, which was restarted after a break, was won by Spain's Aleix Espargaró. He went on to take his second win of the season after his success at Silverstone ahead of teammate and compatriot Maverick Viñales. The Aprilia team celebrated its first MotoGP double.
